How did you pick your instrument?
I picked up the flute in my 7th grade beginning band class. I was drawn towards the flute and clarinet, but my sister played the clarinet, so I ended up with the flute. One of the best decisions I have made in my life!
What is your favorite aspect of being a classical musician?
I thank music for all of the experiences and joy it has brought me. I’ve been able to travel to Europe and across the country to perform and study music. Music constantly teaches me how to work hard and always gives me something to work towards. I love the community of musicians I have met and worked with over these past 9 years. The most impactful aspect of music is knowing my family is proud of me because of the things I have accomplished through music.
What do you hope to provide your audience with through your music?
I always hope my performances as a musician will bring a sense of enjoyment to the audience. When I play music, I think solely on the music and what emotion/story I am trying to portray. Music is a medium that allows the listener and performer to escape the “real world” and transport to another time period/world. I am always touched when audience members speak to me about how much they loved the music and the impact I created for them.
