(October 1, 2020, Los Angeles, CA) – American Youth Symphony (AYS) is presenting an artistically ambitious virtual Fall Concert on Sunday, November 1st at 4:00 p.m. PST, 7:00 p.m. EST. The program will feature the world premiere performance Bloom, composed by Music Director Carlos Izcaray, as well as Igor Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst and Benjamin Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge.

Maestro Izcaray will remotely lead AYS wind and brass ensembles for Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, and will also remotely lead the production of his new work, Bloom, which will be performed by percussionists Jeremy Davis,Jonathan Wisner, and keyboardist Wan Rosalind Wong on electronics.

Following safety protocols guidelines, Izaray will lead nineteen AYS string players at Royce Hall to play Benjamin Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge and Jessie Montgomery’s Starburst. Royce Hall has traditionally been home for AYS concerts throughout the orchestra’s 56 seasons, and AYS is elated to be able to return to the grand concert hall.

During the concert, Carlos Izcaray and Jessie Montgomery will provide commentary on the development of their two pieces, Bloom and Starburst.

“American Youth Symphony’s virtual Fall Concert is a celebration of hope and perseverance in many ways,” said Izcaray. “Despite the challenges presented by this pandemic period, we have found ways to safely come together, remotely and in person at our home, Royce Hall, so we can continue to share the joy of music-making during this time of continued isolation.”

AYS is excited to continue to showcase the exceptional talent of its orchestra musicians, especially during the pandemic period. AYS musicians represent the best players from top universities in Southern California. The AYS Fall Concert is the first opportunity for AYS musicians to finally unite in person and play as an ensemble, after practicing alone at home for many months during quarantine.

Online registration is required before the virtual concert.
