Fact Sheet

Mission Statement
To provide comprehensive training to pre-professional musicians and to bring free-of-charge music performances and music education to the community at large.

Music Director
Alexander Treger, Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, serves as music director and conductor of the American Youth Symphony.

Musicians
The orchestra consists of 110 musicians ages 15 - 27. Members are primarily students at local musical institutions including USC Thornton School of Music, Colburn School, UCLA, Crossroads and CalArts among others.

Admissions
Highly competitive auditions take place every fall. Talent is the only criteria for admission.

Performance Venues
The Orchestra performs in various venues in Los Angeles, including Royce Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
